A virtual number for Gmail and Google account verification
Google asks for a phone number on many new Gmail accounts, and refuses some numbers with "This phone number cannot be used for verification". A virtual number from a range Google accepts gets you through: rent it, receive the SMS code, and the account is open. If Google refuses the number, the order refunds itself and you take one from another country. Then add a recovery email and 2-Step Verification with Google Authenticator or a passkey, and remove the rented number, because Google will use it for recovery otherwise.
Step by step
- Start the Google sign-upName, birthday, and the Gmail address you want. Stop when Google asks for a phone number.
- Rent a number for GoogleTop up with mobile money, card or crypto, then pick a country on the Google page with a good delivery rate.
- Enter it with the right countryChoose the country flag first, then type the number without its country code.
- Type the code Google sendsIt appears on your KamiVerify page. If Google refuses the number or nothing arrives, take another country: the first order refunds itself.
- Secure the account at oncemyaccount.google.com, Security: add a recovery email, turn on 2-Step Verification with Google Authenticator or a passkey, then remove the phone number.
Why Google refuses some numbers
Google keeps track of how often a number range has been used for sign-ups. A range that has been used heavily gets refused for a while. Nothing on the page can force Google to accept it, which is why switching country is the fix and the refund makes switching free.
Common questions
Can I skip the phone number entirely?
Sometimes. Google decides per sign-up, depending on the device and network. If it offers Skip, take it.
Does the same number work for YouTube and Google Play?
They all use your Google account, so verifying the account once covers them.
What does "This phone number cannot be used for verification" mean?
Google refuses that range for now. Let the order expire, which refunds it, and try another country.
